Women for Gun Rights Holds Press Conference at Arizona State Capitol, Explains Why Women Need the Second Amendment

Women for Gun Rights (WGR) held their third annual day touring the Arizona State Capitol on Thursday. The event featured a press conference led by WGR AZ State Director Cheryl Todd, accompanied by supporters and several legislators known for their support of the Second Amendment.

Todd proclaimed March 19, 2026 as Arizona Women for Gun Rights Day. Rep. Selena Bliss (R-Prescott), who gave the group a tour of the House, presented a formal Proclamation in recognition of women’s contributions to firearm safety and civic participation. Bliss noted that women are the fastest growing demographic of gun owners, especially minority women. She expressed pride in Arizona’s strong constitutional tradition of protecting firearm ownership, and said the legislature plays a critical role in preventing unconstitutional firearm restrictions, serving as a frontline defense against policies that conflict with constitutional protections.

Sen. Janae Shamp (R-Surprise) discussed her Senate Bill (SB) 1012, which would allow gun owners with a Concealed Carry Weapon permit to carry firearms in restaurants, even if the business posts a ‘no guns’ sign, as long as they do not consume alcohol. The bill has passed the Arizona Senate and is now in the Arizona House of Representatives for consideration.

“Your children’s safety does not end at the restaurant door in Arizona,” Shamp said. “So a mom like myself or a dad can sit down for a family meal without being forced to choose between obeying the law and protecting the people that we love the most. …  I will not back down on this. I will not apologize, and I will not let fundamentally flawed statutes that are totally repugnant to the Second Amendment and Arizona’s own declaration Article 2 Section 26 that the right to bear arms in defense of self shall not be impaired, shall not stand between myself and my God-given right to protect my family.”
