Kennesaw Georgia has a population of approximately 33627 residents. Its a large town with a small town feel and a colorful history. Kennesaws history is so colorful in fact that former-First Lady Laura Bush designated it a Preserve America Community in 2004 ensuring that its cultural and national heritage would be preserved and explored.
While the town is known for many historical landmarks not least of which is the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain that was
fought during the Civil War one landmark that should be of particular interest is its gun policy.
Here we are in an age of rampant debate about gun control an age where the Left is calling for guns to be banned background checks to be more restrictive and big box stores to stop stocking rifles...and then theres the Big Shanty" a Georgia town whose violent crime rates were 60 below national and state levels as of 2001.
Why has violent crime continued to decrease in the years since then? You guessed it. Kennesaws proudly packin heat. In 1982 a law was enacted mandating that every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm."
This
ordinance was passed in response to a Morton Grove Illinois law that mandated gun prohibition and its worth noting that Morton Grove ended up
repealing their gun ban in 2008 pointing to its failure at preventing violent crime.
Part A of the ordinance reads In order to provide for the emergency management of the city and further in order to provide for and protect the safety security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm together with ammunition therefore."
In any given calendar year Kennesaw sees zero to one murders and few violent crimes. Thats more than a little impressive when one considers that the country as a whole has reported 17 250 murders 130603 rapes and 332198 robberies. The average murder rate per 1000 people is 0.05 whereas Kennesaws rate per 1000 is 0.00.
Kennesaw was never a high crime area to begin with but the crime rate dropped by 89 percent after the law was passed.
The effectiveness of this legislation which city spokesperson Pam Davis has even admitted was
intended as a symbolic gesture should send a strong message to knee-jerk liberals who rush to try and pass more restrictive gun laws every time some random madman shoots up a church or school.
In places like Kennesaw where firearm legislation is more lenient and citizens are allowed if not encouraged to own
guns for self-defense there are far less incidents of murder or mass shootings.
Other towns are taking a page from them and adopting similar laws. In nearby Nelson the Family Protection Ordinance has been passed and its provisions are
identical to those of Kennesaw. Nelson has a population of 1361 people only one of whom is a police officer.
Spring City Utah is yet another example of a small city mandating that households own a gun. These hope that such ordinances will serve as a deterrent and if Kennesaw is any indication they most certainly will.
On a
scale of 1 (low) to 100 (high) violent crime in Nelson is a reasonable 22. In 2013 their violent crime rate was 79.43 percent lower than the national violent crime rate. They have been murder-free for 25 years. The police chief has even gone so far as to compare their little hamlet to Andy Griffiths idyllic Mayberry.
Its an interesting comparison and one that has a lot of us yearning for a simpler and purer time. But if communities like Kennesaw and Nelson teach us anything its that a more civilized and lawful America can still exist.
When the liberal media talk about the South they paint an ugly picture of racial and political divide. The mainstream image is one of Confederate flags and backwards rednecks with one finger on the trigger and the other pointing straight at the nearest minority but the facts are far different.
The FBI has found that Georgia as a whole is seeing a
decrease in hate crimes. Some may see this as the result of the so-called progressive renaissance in some of Georgias blue cities but the truth is Georgia society is polite society.
These are the fundamental things that the Dems dont want to address. The self-proclaimed progressive Left claim to be advocates for freedom of speech only to turn around and invent terms like triggered" and micro-aggression" every time someone says something that they do not agree with.
They claim to be for Americans right to privacy only to turn around and
publish the names and addresses of gun owners. The hypocrisy seems to have no end as evidenced by the glut of Hollywood celebrities who take to Twitter to push the gun control agenda when theyre not brandishing rifles in their ultra-violent action movies.
Its a seemingly never-ending parade of petty small-minded political pundits and naive talk show hosts looking to sell the public a bogus narrative about firearms. But that doesnt mean America has to buy into it.
When the PC police attempt to publicly shame us responsible gun owners or tell us what to do there are two things we should arm ourselves with. One is a privacy solution like the one
used by President Trump during his trip to China. The other is kept in a foot locker or a Sentry safe.
