Let us stop sugar coating it. I know its hard to come out and be blunt with the friendly Theists who frequent sites like this. However in your efforts to play nice" and be civil" you actually do them a great disservice.
We are Atheists. We believe that the Universe is a great uncaused random accident. All life in the Universe past and future are the results of random chance acting on itself. While we acknowledge concepts like morality politeness civility seem to exist we know they do not. Our highly evolved brains imagine that these things have a cause or a use and they have in the past theyve allowed life to continue on this planet for a short blip of time. But make no mistake: all our dreams loves opinions and desires are figments of our primordial imagination. They are fleeting electrical signals that fire across our synapses for a moment in time. They served some purpose in the past. They got us here. Thats it. All human achievement and plans for the future are the result of some ancient evolved brain and accompanying chemical reactions that once served a survival purpose. Ex: Ill marry and nurture children because my genes demand reproduction Ill create because creativity served a survival advantage to my ancient ape ancestors Ill build cities and laws because this allowed my ape grandfather time and peace to reproduce and protect his genes. My only directive is to obey my genes. Eat sleep reproduce die. That is our bible.
We deride the Theists for having created myths and holy books. We imagine ourselves superior. But we too imagine there are reasons to obey laws be polite protect the weak etc. Rubbish. We are nurturing a new religion one where we imagine that such conventions have any basis in reality. Have they allowed life to exist? Absolutely. But who cares? Outside of my greedy little genes need to reproduce there is nothing in my world that stops me from killing you and reproducing with your wife. Only the fear that I might be incarcerated and thus be deprived of the opportunity to do the same with the next guys wife stops me. Some of my Atheist friends have fooled themselves into acting like the general population. They live in suburban homes drive Toyota Camrys attend school plays. But underneath they know the truth. They are a bag of DNA whose only purpose is to make more of themselves. So be nice if you want. Be involved have polite conversations be a model citizen. I know its not PC to speak so bluntly about the ramifications of our beliefs but in our discussions with Theists we sometimes tiptoe around what we really know to be factual. Maybe its time we Atheists were a little more truthful and let the chips fall where they may. At least thats what my genes are telling me to say.

I care not what people choose to do between the sheets in their bedrooms; this is none of my business to each his own. I also have no quarrel with state-sanctioned same-sex civil unions. Years ago though I warned people once civil unions are universal the domino effect encroaching upon the right to the free practice of religion would come under attack. Same-sex couples who more often than not denounce the sanctity of God find it in their political interest to whore their own prejudice to the highest bidders. They demand any church arbitrarily chosen to perform these rites not prescribed by the Abrahamic traditions of the Bible but by the amoral state in which secularism has manifested into its own visceral god complex. Same-sex marriage was never intended in the Bible because it is a union meant to bind men and women in holy matrimony to initiate the process of raising families through natural conception of their offspring and many generations of progeny. A man is not a natural mother; a woman cannot find an equitable biological claim to be a father. Thus the largely-secular LGBT community is not interested in recognition under Gods auspices to apply love as their justification to demand a Christian-based marriage. Like all reflections of the liberal mindset who today espouse a far more insidious form of National Socialism they support and openly employ rape in coercing those against whom they despise to either forgo their core principles convictions and beliefs based upon their traditional values under God or be imprisoned not as conscientious dissenters but as radicals who engage in militant disobedience in citing the Bible daring to exercise their right to choice under God. I actually favor a third approach one which the LGBT Nazis will never support given their goal is to destroy Christianity not to obtain any ethereal equality which under God all are created equal because each sin is viewed the same: abominations condemned to death should one choose not to accept Jesus as their Savior. I support the total abolition of legal marriage for the purpose of deferring this sacred rite to the diverse array of religions who are as balkanized on the issue as is the general public. There are numerous faiths which will happily issue these rites to gay couples yet the right to choose a relationship with Jesus Christ specifically is the target all left-wing political ideologues advocate as their greatest threat to their survival since Protestant Christians are centrally-geared towards a more direct interpretation of the Gospels and therefore refuse to acknowledge the temporal sovereignty of any government over God. The matter even conservative pundits refuse to support the total abolition of statutory marriage is reflective of one damnable fundamental truth: that the idea of repealing the marriage penalty as a form of direct taxation is unappealing.
