Civil discourse is becoming increasingly difficult in this age when the progressives have become ideologically committed more than ever to their cause. We need to find a way to return to having the exchange of information ideals and worldview not just so we can understand what the left believes but why so many are so passionate about it and try to counter it (if possible rationally). Mission Impossible? I say yes but nothing really new if youre are a true believer in a cause or just a way to make money (even if that way of making money hurts others). Back in the day the Democrats got violent over the issue of slave trade and just not with the slaves they owned.
One of my FB friends posted a statement about being liberal on his/her personal FB page. He/she did not write the piece but he or she pretty much agrees with it. Here is the opening:
Im a liberal but that doesnt mean what a lot of you apparently think it does.
Lets break it down shall we? Because quite frankly Im getting a little tired of being told what I believe and what I stand for. Spoiler alert: Not every liberal is the same though the majority of liberals I know think along roughly these same lines:
For the purpose of this two parter piece I shall call this person Mx Liberal and Mx is a gender-neutral title. I basically looked over the the 16 beliefs that were laid out and they speak typical of people that hold to progressive worldviews. Of course everybody is different but nine times out of ten most progressive liberals hold to the same worldview
I will comment on each one and explain to the best of my ability what the conservative worldview is and why we stand for it. Besides they tells us what Conservative means and why they dont like it either. We really need to speak up speak out and understand what conservatism means and what we can and must do.
OK here we go;
1. I believe a country should take care of its weakest members. A country cannot call itself civilized when its children disabled sick and elderly are neglected. Period.
This is A if not THE lynchpin of liberalism/progressivism. Some call it fascisms sweet siren song or something along those lines. That being that government; will take care of you." It seems that the left does not ask what the cost is and not just monetarily. What the government funds it can and does control. The greater cost and taking care of people is the loss of freedom and liberty. Now that does not mean that we have no obligation to take care of our children disabled sick and elderly. In fact we do and that is commanded by Holy Scripture of the Bible. God however calls individuals faith groups and local communities to this task. Not the governments; even at the local level...PERIOD!!! Also government will not be able to come up the funds to take care of everybody...so taking care of people will become a negative for certain people..if not not certain groups. Our government will get rid of certain people because they are not worth investing in. Plus they love the power and they love to be the bully and they love to abuse the unwashed masses.
2. I believe healthcare is a right not a privilege. Somehow thats interpreted as I believe Obamacare is the end-all be-all. This is not the case. Im fully aware that the ACA has problems that a national healthcare system would require everyone to chip in and that its impossible to create one that is devoid of flaws but I have yet to hear an argument against it that makes let people die because they cant afford healthcare a better alternative. I believe healthcare should be far cheaper than it is and that everyone should have access to it. And no Im not opposed to paying higher taxes in the name of making that happen.
The right to healthcare has been the holy grail (as long time KOA NewsRadio personality Mike Rosen calls it) of the left for years regardless if you call yourself liberal progressive socialist or even Marxist. Again look to my comments above in response to #1. It must be handled at the local level with private communities of faith charity etc. We have seen the government creep into healthcare especially with the ACA/ObamaCare but certain leftists have warned that the Affordable Care Act was only a transition to single payer healthcare. Well they came up with a great name for OUR proposed single payer system....Medicare For All. The same result will happen our government will not be able to take care of everyone but they want to hang on to power and will allow the deaths of the weaker people to keep that power.
3. I believe education should be affordable and accessible to everyone. It doesnt necessarily have to be free (though it works in other countries so Im mystified as to why it cant work in the US) but at the end of the day there is no excuse for students graduating college saddled with five- or six-figure debt.
Well it seems you want all of us to not just pay for elementary and secondary education Mx Liberal but now the left wants us to pay for higher education as well. Trouble is too many public colleges and universities have professors that have been long tenured and demand more pay and benefits while espousing more socialist revolution ideals coupled with the beautification of the many campuses nationwide from large to small. That is why higher education costs so much these days. We have been giving more to the elementary and secondary education system but is that going into the upkeep of the buildings? The teachers especially backed by a union are taken care of quite well and those who have been in the system the longest are given top priority. The left is using our children as pawns for their grander schemes in education...that includes job security.
4. I dont believe your money should be taken from you and given to people who dont want to work. I have literally never encountered anyone who believes this. Ever. I just have a massive moral problem with a society where a handful of people can possess the majority of the wealth while there are people literally starving to death freezing to death or dying because they cant afford to go to the doctor. Fair wages lower housing costs universal healthcare affordable education and the wealthy actually paying their share would go a long way toward alleviating this. Somehow believing that makes me a communist.
Maybe youre not a communist Mx Liberal but you are supporting the ideals of Karl Marx if not downright statism. You really believe that the State is their to care of people. That is not what government is for. It is their to uphold the sword and keep the people safe and orderly. When someone in the community gets out of line then the state must step in to bring down the sword on those who are causing disorder.
5. I dont throw around Im willing to pay higher taxes lightly. If Im suggesting something that involves paying more well its because Im fine with paying my share as long as its actually going to something besides lining corporate pockets or bombing other countries while Americans die without healthcare.
Speaking for myself I am not in favor of corporate welfare nor do I support crony capitalism in which our government indeed has its hands in. The government should not pick winners and losers. That should be left to the free market and the customer base. Again Mx Liberal thinks the government should be involved in the welfare state to take care of the weak and educate but even their; winners and losers are predetermined.
6. I believe companies should be required to pay their employees a decent livable wage. Somehow this is always interpreted as me wanting burger flippers to be able to afford a penthouse apartment and a Mercedes. What it actually means is that no one should have to work three full-time jobs just to keep their head above water. Restaurant servers should not have to rely on tips multi-billion dollar companies should not have employees on food stamps workers shouldnt have to work themselves into the ground just to barely make ends meet and minimum wage should be enough for someone to work 40 hours and live.
The more government gets involved in work agreements and demands like you must pay this and that and offer certain benefits the more it becomes impossible to do...especially if your a franchisee and not some evil CEO in a darken office someplace. Look at some of the quick service places replacing human cashiers with computer touch screens. This only hurts the workers" in the long run. Sorry the best way to handle this is let the employer and employee handle the business arrangement. The employer has his own interest to take care of first and if he or she cant do that then their is no business and everyone will suffer. No business no jobs and if it was a good product then its history or worse; a footnote in minor history if it was just a local business.
7. I am not anti-Christian. I have no desire to stop Christians from being Christians to close churches to ban the Bible to forbid prayer in school etc. (BTW prayer in school is NOT illegal; *compulsory* prayer in school is - and should be - illegal). All I ask is that Christians recognize *my* right to live according to *my* beliefs. When I get pissed off that a politician is trying to legislate Scripture into law Im not offended by Christianity -- Im offended that youre trying to force me to live by your religions rules. You know how you get really upset at the thought of Muslims imposing Sharia law on you? Thats how I feel about Christians trying to impose biblical law on me. Be a Christian. Do your thing. Just dont force it on me or mine.
OK a few things Mx Liberal. Our First Amendment says they cant respect a religious establishment but cant muzzle them either. We dont want an established church but we want to give people of faith a voice to speak up and speak out at the same time. When Mx Liberal complains about legislating scripture into law" it speaks about the lefts loose sexual morals especially when it comes to that and abortion. The left does not want people like me to impose certain sexual codes and laws that protect the unborn child but they want us to pay for women who want to have an abortion because they are poor and wanted to be able to enjoy their lives in spite of them hurting others and eventually themselves. Their are certain laws based on upon scripture that are common scene laws that everyone should obey. You dont steal you dont murder (including the preborn child) and you dont lie to authorities (unless they have chosen to go after Christians for no reason other than their existence) in order to protect the guilty. What Mx Liberal is saying is that we would rather have loose sexual morals and the right to kill our unborn because our personal pleasures are more important than loving the child that was created in our heated passions. Oh and we steal for the greater good." I have to say it progressives do want to steal what really does not belong to them because they or their families were just not successful as others.
8. I dont believe LGBT people should have more rights than you. I just believe they should have the *same* rights as you.
OK but as George Orwell stated in his novel Animal Farm some groups are more equal than others. Ask cake baker Jack Phillips and many other small business who had to deal with what Steve Deace and myself call the Rainbow Jhaid. It seems that the LGBTQetc is more equal than others Mx Liberal. If the jhaid had it their way Phillips would have to honor every demand made by the them and basically allow them to do what they do and Phillips must honor that too. Talk about narcissism. But it is all about love...right? Mx Liberal they want more than being equal...they want affirmation of their lifestyle. They want to be told that they are not doing anything wrong. They want the lie to become the truth. Either that or they will destroy the lively hood of a Jack Phillips...and they still trying to accomplish that.
