The Labour Partys anti-Semitic Problem

caption id=attachment_19074 align=alignnone width=500width=500 File photo dated 27/09/15 of Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn/caption The Labour Party in the United Kingdom has an anti-Semitic problem. According to a July 2018 report from Community Security Trust (CST) an organization dedicated to physical protection and defense of British Jews over 700 anti-Semitic offenses have occurred in the first half of the year throughout the United Kingdom. The CST states Each of these incidents represents a Jewish person who has had abuse shouted at them seen antisemitic graffiti; a Jewish school child threatened on the bus; or perhaps someone harassed on social media." This release of data comes as the Labour Party has recently faced charges of anti-Semitism within its own ranks. According to reporting from the Daily Mail Frid Milani a supporter of Jeremy Corbyn leader of the Labour Party labeled a senior Labour Party official a Jewish pig" and a bloodsucker." In an email to Lord Levy who served as former Prime Minister Tony Blairs personal envoy to the Middle East Mr. Milani wrote I see you dare to criticize the Labour Leader. Who the hell are you to comment on Jeremy Corbyn? You are just another Jewish pig bloodsucker living on taxpayers money. What are you doing in this county anyway? The email continued why dont you piss off to Israel? We dont need Jewish bastards like you in this country." In September a Labour Party MP Chuka Umunna stated on Sky News that he believed the Labour Party was institutionally racist. Umunna noted it is very painful for me to say that. Part of the reason that I joined the Labour Party that my family supported the party was because it was anti-racist party. I think the failure to deal with the racism that is antisemitism is particular and clearly is a problem." In 2011 Corbyn stated in an interview that the BBC has a bias toward saying Israel has the right to exist. In addition Corbyn previously faced criticism regarding Labours failure to back the definition of anti-Semitism as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). Labour partially adopted the IHRA definition but stripped it of clauses that pertained to criticism of Israel. A few weeks ago British Prime Minister Theresa May criticized the anti-Semitism problems within the Labour Party and its leadership stating Labour has experienced a national tragedy" under Corbyn. Prime Minister May at a Conservative Party conference asked would Clement Atlee Chruchills trusted deputy during the Second World War have told British Jews they did not know the meaning of anti-Semitism?" A recent poll conducted by The Jewish Chronicle found that almost 40 of British Jews would seriously consider emigrating if Corbyn were to become Prime Minister. The rank and file of the Labour Party need to speak out adamantly and forcefully against the ant-Semitism of their party and completely revamp their leadership structure. If they fail to do so they risk losing support of British Jews not only in the immediate but in the long-term as well.
