Phoenix, AZ – Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick traveled to Phoenix on Monday to sign a check for $1 million to Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at its headquarters. He said during the ceremony that he contributed the money, which came from his campaign warchest, to set up new Turning Point chapters at schools around Texas.
After signing the check, he spoke with several reporters. He told them, “The truth is, I’m a Christian first. So Charlie [Kirk], what he was doing to bring God’s word and the principles and values of the Old and New Testament to young people.”
He expounded more on how his faith and former TPUSA CEO and founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September, drove his contribution. “The Lord put it on my heart,” Patrick said. “He was so kind and generous to me, and he had such a vision. I felt like I just owed it to him. He gave His life. He gave his life for what he believed and not intentionally, but no different than a police officer or someone in our military who’s willing to die for what they believe in America, the law and order. He believed. He believed this was important. This message was important to tell people and young people around the country, and he, and he was wanting to risk his life for it, and he lost his life, or to the least, writing a million dollar check out of my campaign is nothing compared to what he did.”
A reporter asked Patrick if having TPUSA chapters on school campuses was legal, and whether it would be mandated. Patrick responded, “Well, we don’t want to mandate that you have to have a spelling club or a chess club or anything else. You can choose to do that, but what we want to do is clear the way for those students who want to have a chapter on every campus.”Read the rest of the article
