The race for Arizona’s Congressional District 1 just became heated in the Republican primary, with State Rep. Joseph Chaplik (R-Scottsdale) announcing his candidacy. Arizona Republican Party Chair (AZGOP) Gina Swoboda entered the race previously. Incumbent Rep. David Schweikert announced earlier this year that he would not be running for reelection, instead entering the governor’s race.
Chaplik said in his announcement, “Arizona needs a strong conservative voice in Washington — someone who will stand tall in D.C. and has been battle tested to fight reckless spending and put the people ahead of special interests. I’ve done that at the State Capitol, and I’m ready to take that fight to Congress for our constituents in Arizona.”
According to the announcement, Chaplik is a founding member of the conservative Arizona Freedom Caucus in the Arizona Legislature. He has 100% ratings with the Club for Growth Foundation, CPAC, and Center for Arizona Policy, an A+ Rating with the NRA and a 98% Lifetime Rating with Turning Point Action.
