Roving GOP Attorney Warns that Problems on Arizona’s Primary Election Day Will Increase on General Election Day

Republican attorney Mark Sonnenklar, who monitors elections as a “roving attorney” on Election Day, is sounding the alarm about potential election problems in Arizona on Election Day next week. He compiled a list of issues he spotted in the primary election on Election Day earlier this year, and said they will increase on November 3.

He said the problems he found have not been fixed. “[T]he Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (BOS) has effectively dismissed my concerns about known election-day problems,” Sonnenklar posted on X. He said he observed five previous elections, visiting an average of 10 vote centers during each one. He found a pattern, “Problems observed during primaries reappear on a larger scale during general elections.”

In a letter to the MCBOS, Sonnenklar listed the problems he found on Election Day in Maricopa County for the July 21 primary. He found that “numerous voter registrations were switched from Republican to No Party Designated [NPD] without the voter’s consent.”

Sonnenklar discovered broken tabulators at three of the 10 vote centers he visited, which were not fixed or replaced, remaining down all day. In the 2022 election, many of the tabulators in the reddest parts of the county had problems accepting the ballots, which Republicans believed massively disenfranchised them.
