Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller Blasts Pinal County Supervisors for ‘Frivolous Legal Actions Targeting’ Him

The legal dispute between Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller and the Pinal County Board of Supervisors (PCBOS) continues to escalate, with Miller blasting the PCBOS for “frivolous legal actions targeting the County Attorney’s Office.” The PCBOS sued the Pinal County Attorney’s Office (PCAO) in February for entering into a 287(g) agreement with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last December to conduct roving patrols.

Miller said in a press release, “These continued efforts have come at a cost. To date, the Board has authorized and spent approximately $257,000 in taxpayer-funded outside legal counsel fees tied to these ongoing disputes. … The people of Pinal County did not elect us to argue with politicians. They elected us to enforce the law. And that is exactly what we are doing while the Board of Supervisors spends your money trying to stop it.”

The PCBOS held a meeting on Wednesday. They discussed two topics that were also addressed secretly in executive session with their attorneys relating to the feud.

The first item appeared to contemplate filing a bar complaint against Miller. The PCBOS will discuss “potential or contemplated litigation, negotiations, or settlement discussions regarding the Arizona State Bar requirements, ethical obligations, and statutory scope of representation of the County Attorney’s Office and the elected County Attorney concerning various activities, statements and actions made to or about the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, collectively or individually, by the County Attorney.”
