Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller Announces New 287(g) Partnership with ICE

FLORENCE, Arizona – Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller announced a new 287(g) partnership with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Monday at a press conference. The agreement will allow his investigators to enforce immigration laws during routine duties focused on violent crimes like human smuggling and child trafficking. It is the only agency in the state to set up a task force agreement with ICE this year, allowing for community policing.

Miller began his speech by taking a dig at Democratic members of Congress who oppose the Trump administration’s policies on illegal immigration. “Recently, my office indicted an illegal immigrant Ismael Ortega Hernandez for murder of his girlfriend in front of her children,” Miller said. “He sought refuge in a ‘sanctuary city’ because politicians like Representatives [Adelita] Grijalva and [Yassamin] Ansari have made people believe they are safe in those cities.  I am here to let you know that there are no sanctuary cities in Arizona — with this partnership if you commit a crime in Pinal County we will hunt you down no matter where you go and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. “
