Upon knowing who Edward Snowden is I had no real idea over what he did in the past. But the problem with any whistle blower is that they are considered a dangerous person but dangerous people are not born but are usually less of a dissident than we think. The book follows his beginning where he states in every gamer is a heart of the a reader." This is what made Snowden infinitely more interesting to this gamer reader and writer and reviewer relatable. Snowden is only three years older than I am I am 33 and he is 36. The book in itself seems to remain a charismatic man who is definitely more human as each page recounts his life as his parents divorce breaks his spirit and he forces himself to become a new man through the Internet. I rarely like nonfiction but a memoir about Edward Snowden is intriguing from the start. Firstly I do not think the government should act against Edward Snowden anymore. If his whistleblowing is an offense its only offensive to the left and never are they the only resource to read from. In a truly independent way Snowden is a reminder that some people should not know what secrets lie in government. With his falling out of military due to medical complications the military release him not on a medical disability because it would mean they would have to pay for his medical which they didnt want to do.
Its a precursor to what the rest of the book becomes. He rises through the IC program and becomes a top level government agent but the more he rises problems start to happen. He suffers from epilepsy and with pills he starts to become normal again. What the perception of Snowden maintains is that Bush was in the wrong and from my understanding if Bush is to blame so is Obama. Obama could have cancelled the arrest but it was Obama who was forced to take away his passport. If Bush really cared about what happened to him he would not have been allowed to enter the NSA. The problem is that once you start blaming George W for problems President Obama has no choice but to take on the same level of blind hatred for the whistleblower. Its problems that no longer seem like they should be discussed but the issue of wanting to find a super human out of Snowden will not find it here but a man pushed to his limits.
He seems rather courteous and almost as if his recounting of past is structured to help the reader see the full surroundings involving his rise into the man he became. What we do see is that while his actions are bad" it helps that we see that most memoirs are merely just recounting a past that one cannot seem to talk about at the moment. I have a memoir hand written but I cant seem to look at it. My life is better understood through fiction and even so memoir can be interpreted as a fiction of the personal and subjective. Its the truth behind the narrative we tell ourselves. Often times when reading this book one cant help but be fascinated by the level of detail Snowden is giving us. It makes me want to encrypt all my files from the start. What becomes a hackers wisdom is now what most people will know. If you buy this book digitally you will be hacked. But what this book ultimately is lies in this passage and the reason why Snowden gave up the NSAs secrets: Ultimately saying that you dont care about privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different from saying you dont care about freedom of speech because you have nothing to say." (Permanent Record. Snowden Edward Metropolitan Books. P. 208).
For those who would say they think Edward Snowden is a danger must look at what people think is truly threatening to unveil. The perception people have is not what freedoms actually mean but when you have no longer any freedoms left to complain about. The left want you to admit that it would just be better that you not read this book. Every time he disparages Bush its also disparaging Obama. Obama could have given him a lighter sentence but the problem is that most people look down on snitching even against national countries. If the problem is one that is against an entire nation why isnt Snowden considered a hero and not a traitor. There are many problems with the Us government spying on the people is what made Snowden turn into the fugitive he has become. If it meant your freedoms were at stake would you ever talk about secrets in government circles.
Its hard to tell the truth when governments want happy docile people to never question the government but what is allowed is that spying against foreign enemies is the main concern. What we see is that Snowden had to act because without sacrificing his freedom we would not be having this conversation today. Its funny to see that Bush gets the blame but Obama is certainly one to let the anger against Snowden continue. Trump should pardon Snowden for doing the country a favor.
The NSA might" be at fault for looking into Republican accounts on social media sites because it makes sense as to why so many republicans have felt marginalized in the same way someone who knows that individual liberties are being destroyed to save conglomerate industries. I know that jobs create fake emails so that they can see how many people respond to emails so that they can embarrass the company and show how many people are opening emails or not and show how hackers can invade but it seems like a draconian exercise and we are subject to it every day.
The distinction is knowing that even now there is always a presence on the Internet. Even now someone is reading this from the NSA thinking he might have the goods on me. But the book is a must for those who are interested in cyber security and the ways to make our lives more hospitable and less invasive. His perceptions are truly just as genius as a spy thriller writing fiction (I finished it in three days). I hope that Snowden is forgiven and allowed to come home but unfortunately the government doesnt think so.
