Pentagon Investigating Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly for Urging Troops to Defy Orders

The Pentagon is investigating Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), a retired Navy captain, over possible breaches of military law after a video of Kelly and other elected officials went viral urging soldiers in the military to defy the Trump administration’s orders. Kelly told U.S. troops in the video, “You can refuse illegal orders.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said on Monday that Kelly’s actions "bring discredit upon the armed forces and will be addressed appropriately." He announced a "thorough review" of "serious allegations of misconduct" against Kelly under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Labeling the six officials in the video as the “Seditious Six,” he noted that Kelly’s remarks “were addressed directly to all troops while explicitly using his rank and service affiliation—lending the appearance of authority to his words.”

Kelly shot back on X, “If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.”
