Ambassador George Maior (Romania)/caption
George-Cristian Maior was born on November 16 1967 in Cluj-Napoca Romania. His father historian Liviu Maior was Minister of Education (1992-1996) and ambassador to Canada. He graduated from the Babe-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (LL.B. 1991; Ph.D. in International Law 1998) George Washington University in Washington DC (M.A. in International and Comparative Law 1992) and Defense National College in Bucharest (masters 2001).
George Maior worked as a diplomat (the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry in Bucharest 1992-1997) charg daffairs (the Romanian Embassy in Ireland at Dublin 1997-1999) senator (the Romanian Parliament 2000-2006) Head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (2006-2015) and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the United States (2015 to present).
During the period of October 3 and 4 2019 George Maior attended the annual
ALIANŢA/The Alliance Gala in Washington DC at the Conrad Hotel and the Romanian Embassy respectively.
With that occasion on October 3 2019 Ambassador Maior granted me an exclusive interview.
1. Dear Mr. Ambassador George Maior you have been Romanias ambassador to Washington since 2015. Now we are in 2019. How do you consider at the end of the day in the last part of your mandate the Romanian-American relations with achievements and desires?
I think we have had at the end of the day good results because we have had perhaps the most important qualitative growth of the strategic partnership with the USA in the last years: two presidential visits n" visits at the government level an increase of the economic exchanges. So there are many achievements
2. Ambassador lets continue. Please describe in this election year for Romania the challenges facing the Romanian Embassy in Washington.
We organize the elections normally we are very well prepared and we take care of our diplomatic mission which is permanently linked to the strengthening of the strategic partnership
3. Last question Ambassador. Can you share some of your thoughts for the future after your term in Washington is over?
I hope it lasts as long as possible. And with this I try to do my daily duty to the country and to this vital relationship for Romania.
