The Arizona Free Enterprise Club (AFEC) released a report revealing how wealthy, powerful non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are funding progressive groups and media in Arizona. The group contends that the money is funneled through a variety of organizations, with much of it coming from progressive billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
AFEC said the left has a “sophisticated funding apparatus” in Arizona which “encompasses hard campaign expenditures, union-funded operations, litigation networks, policy nonprofits, and astroturf media, all working in coordination.” It is all reportedly centered around one group, Arabella Advisors, which is being assumed by a new entity, Sunflower Services.
AFEC alleged, “Out-of-state billionaires channel ‘philanthropy’ dollars through Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) and fiscal sponsors that create layers of deniability. Follow this flow of cash into Arizona, and it reveals a patchwork of nonprofits, media platforms, and activist groups designed to look grassroots but function as cogs in the political machinery.”
According to AFEC, the media outlet AZ Mirror is funded by progressive megadonors such as Hansjörg Wyss and affiliated Arabella-linked funds. Its headlines include, “White Nationalism Gets a Hearing in the Arizona House,” and “Republican Resolution Would Declare Trump the Winner in 2024, Regardless of What Voters Say.”
