Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is reportedly planning a large-scale operation in Phoenix soon, according to The Bulwark. The news site said three former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials said that sources within the Trump administration told them Phoenix was the next city ICE intended to target with a crackdown.
Last month, ICE proposed constructing several new large-scale detainment centers around the country, including one in Glendale, which is west of Phoenix in Maricopa County. The Bulwark reported that one of the former agents said it would allow the Trump administration to turn the Phoenix metro area into a “hub of removal” in the Southwest. The agent compared it to the Rio Grande Processing Center, a massive processing center for illegal immigrants in Texas. A similar center was recently opened in Florida, named Alligator Alcatraz.
