AZGOP to Attorney General:

End Political Prosecutions, Focus on Today’s Crime

Phoenix, AZ – September 22, 2025 – The Arizona Court of Appeals has declined Attorney General Kris Mayes’ petition to remand the 2020 alternate elector case to a grand jury. The order makes clear that the Court will not entertain Mayes’ attempt to keep this politically motivated case alive.

With two other states – including Georgia – already dropping similar prosecutions, the Arizona Republican Party is calling on Mayes to follow their lead and stop wasting time and taxpayer resources on partisan lawfare.

“Arizona families deserve an Attorney General who prosecutes criminals, not political opponents,” said AZGOP Chairwoman Gina Swoboda. “Five years later, Kris Mayes is still fixated on 2020 while violent crime, fentanyl trafficking, and border chaos threaten our communities every single day. This obsession is not justice – it’s politics.”

Chairwoman Swoboda added that Republicans will continue to stand up for the rule of law and demand that justice be applied fairly, not weaponized against citizens for partisan gain.

“The people of Arizona are tired of distractions,” Swoboda continued. “They want safer streets, secure borders, and an Attorney General focused on the real challenges facing our state. It’s time for Kris Mayes to move on and put Arizona first.”
