Brianna Westbrook, a male who identifies as a woman and previously served as vice chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, was arrested for an incident involving a knife on July 10. Prosecutors charged the self-described socialist with felonies of third-degree burglary and aggravated assault using a simulated deadly weapon, and a disorderly conduct misdemeanor.
According to Phoenix police, Westbrook forced his way into the home of his ex with a knife and duct tape. The probable cause statement filed by Phoenix police said Westbrook was “holding a knife in one hand and black tape in the other,” Phoenix New Times reported. The police said, “Westbrook and the victim wrestled until Westbrook eventually pushed the victim onto the couch and told her not to move.” Hearing screams, the victim’s sister came into the room and Westbrook lunged at both of them with the knife, the police said.
Westbrook told police that it was a fake knife meant for a planned BDSM session. However, his ex disputed that she agreed to the BDSM.
The Phoenix New Times reported, “[P]olice checked boxes that Westbrook has a prior history of domestic violence and that the ‘frequency/intensity’ of that domestic violence had been increasing.” Westbrook was previously arrested in 2018 during a sit-in protest at former Sen. Jeff Flake’s office against Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.
