Even the Best take a loss but you must keep going

ImageImage Writers Note: This summer I wrote a piece on Katie Ledeckys illness during the FINA world championships in Gwangju South Korea.  Ledecky is a distance swimmer and is known for pulling out of the 1500 meter freestyle races at this years FINA Worlds.  However she lost her 400 Meter race and soon after had to drop out of the 1500m.  She would be back in action to win the 800m at FINA.  Based on some the races she recently competed in you can not count out Ledecky.  It should be a reminder that you have to stay in the fight until the end.  Because of these recent races I felt that I should post this very piece in Intellectual Conservative. Katie Ledecky is one woman (not the only woman or man) who has helped sparked Americas interest in the sport of swimming. She has proven that she can do the events that the men have done longer than the women and because of that the media love her for it. It also means that Ledecky and those who have her back must make sure the media are kept in check as well. It seemed that Ledecky found a arch rival with Australias Ariarne Titmus who managed to defeat Ledecky for the gold in the 400m Freestyle. But after making the 1500m Freestyle Ledecky had to drop out altogether because we soon found out she was really sick. It gave Simona Quadarella of Italy the win in the 1500m basically by default. Quadarella and Titmus however got silver and bronze respectfully in in the 800m Freestyle as Ledecky was able to claim gold in that respected race. Quadarella and Titmus I am for sure would love to beat Ledecky in a fair fight but sadly this was not really fair. A situation beyond Ledeckys control and it could have happened to any swimmer or any other athlete. Ledecky can be beat fairly but she keeps going...it is what she and everyone else can and should do. I have admit I like following a few YouTube sites that discuss Power Rangers and while I am not a comic book geek I do like how they expanded on the overall story from what I have heard from those who followed the PR comics. Fans of the original Mighty Morphin story know about the trials of MMPR Green Ranger (and later MMPR White etc etc.) Tommy Oliver. Well the comics expanded on the story when Tommy lost the Green Ranger powers for a second and final time. He is still in contact with the core team and has to realize that they will be called away when then arch enemy Lord Zedd attempts another attack. Tommy tells them that he might be the best but even the best take a loss. He took losses in his sport of karate competition and not being a Power Ranger thanks to Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd (not at the same time) both getting a one up on him. The only thing Tommy could do was to keep going and you know how the story went afterwards. Tommy Oliver had the heart of a champion and in the real world so does Katie Ledecky. Sure she is not a Power Ranger Wonder Woman or a member of the Shazam family; but she has been able to do things that her predecessors could not do. Also one of the NBC Sports swimming coverage commentators said that Ledecky has heart...sound familiar? Well Katie took her loses at FINA and a win and now she wants to go keep going and maybe compete in a fair fight with Titmus and Quadarella. The focus now is will be on the Tokyo Summer Olympics and getting their which includes the Olympic trials which will take place in Omaha next year. Ledecky is someone that does not throw in the towel. She knows herself and knows how to be competitive. So far it has allowed her to bounce back...she needs to do that...she knows that their is a lot riding on her and not just the Olympic Games but helping the overall sport of swimming be more than just a every fourth year event. We can learn a lot from the fictional Tommy Oliver and the real life Katie Ledecky. Even the best will lose a lot...but you have to keep up the fight for your dreams and goals...and maybe to keep freedom and liberty alive.
