Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), located in Prescott, Arizona, told the Young Americans for Freedom that they could not criticize Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in a flyer promoting an event scheduled for Wednesday on campus with Lt. Col. Allen West, a former Texas congressman.
ERAU’s Molly Webb told the group these lines must be removed from their promotional poster:
- “DEI is racism”
- “speaks against racism”
- “What is DEI? DEI stands for ‘diversity, equity and inclusion.’ This acronym has often been used under the guise of promoting quality. However, Allen West argues against this, stating that it actually does more harm than good, often resulting in reverse racism and lack of merit … and has personally witnessed the dangers of DEI policies. He is coming to ERAU Prescott to speak against DEI.”
The organization changed the language and resubmitted it a couple of times, but was still denied. According to The Arizona Republic, chapter leader Benjamin Isbell changed “DEI is racism” to “What is DEI?” and revised “speaks against racism” to “speaks about racism.” Another revision contained a large, red “CENSORED” hiding the text that was objected to, but was still rejected.
