Arizona Man Facing Criminal Charges for Leading Voter Registration Scheme in Pennsylvania

A man in Sierra Vista, Arizona, has been charged by Pennsylvania prosecutors with three counts of soliciting voter registrations, a misdemeanor. The Attorney General’s Office announced on 24th October, Guillermo Sainz, an employee of the Mesa-based Field+Media Corps, served as director of the company’s voter registration drive in Pennsylvania. Fraudulent voter registration forms were submitted prior to last year’s presidential election in the battleground state.

Pennsylvania law prohibits offering money to reach voter registration quotas. Six canvassers who worked under Sainz were charged with unsworn falsification, tampering with public records, forgery and violations of Pennsylvania election law.

The investigation began when Pennsylvania election workers flagged about 2,500 forms as possibly fraudulent. ABC News reported that one canvasser admitted most of the voter registration forms he submitted were “not real.” President Donald Trump referenced the 2,500 possibly fraudulent forms during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, referring to them as “cheating.”

Irregularities included registrations in the names of dead people and duplicate registrations. Lancaster County reported receiving about 2,500 questionable registrations. Lancaster District Attorney Heather Adams said roughly 60% of the applications her detectives have reviewed so far appear fraudulent.
