Arizona Freedom Caucus Lays Out Plans for 2025 Legislative Session, Intent to ‘Fire’ Three Top Democratic Officials in 2026

State legislators from the conservative Arizona Freedom Caucus (AFC) held a press conference at the state capitol on Monday, discussing their plans for the 2025 legislative session. State Senator Jake Hoffman (R-Queen Creek), founding chair of the AFC and chair of the Senate Committee on Director Nominations, provided the remarks, flanked by numerous current and past members of the AFC.

He denounced the leadership of Governor Katie Hobbs, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, and Attorney General Kris Mayes, three Democrats who were elected to the state’s top positions in 2022. “The single most important task that we will work on over the coming two years, that will produce the greatest positive benefit for the people of Arizona, is our efforts to fire Katie Hobbs, Kris Mayes, and Adrian Fontes in the 2026 election,” Hoffman said. “The State of the State, if measured solely by Katie Hobbs’ systemic failures is bleak at best,” he said, referencing her forthcoming speech that day.

Hoffman touted the work of the AFC. “The Republican majority, buoyed by the leadership of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, has held the line in defense of pro-liberty, pro-opportunity and prosperity policies in order to ensure that in spite of the Democrats in the executive branch. Arizonans have a government that works for all of us,” he said.

He laid out the “failures” by Hobbs. “Exactly two years ago, we stood in this same spot and flagged the flagrant abuse of executive power by Katie Hobbs,” Hoffman said. “The newly minted tenth floor occupants [of the Arizona Capitol] had immediately, within hours, begun her term by overreaching the executive branch’s power, the constitutional authority of the executive branch and attempting to do the legislature’s job by executive fiat. Since that day, the failures and overreaches and abuses of the law by the executive branch Democrats in Arizona have only gotten far worse.”
