John Lennon's mockery of God, and the challenge of Keeping Christ in Christmas

The Apostles' and Nicene Creeds remind us that Jesus Christ suffered under the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea in service of Emperor Tiberius (and was the second Emperor of the Roman Empire).  The name of the fifth governor of course was Pontius Pilate who was reluctant to execute Jesus but gave in to the demands of the Jews who supported the Pharisees who in turn wanted Jesus dead so they can make themselves look good if not “great” once again.  Thus, Jesus was crucified, died and buried.  Of course, he rose again from the dead and is seated against the right hand of Father God, and he shall return to judge the living and the dead.  Now, before all that could happen, Jesus had to become a baby and this takes us to my thoughts in this Christmas piece in which I will focus on 41st Anniversary of John Lennon’s death and the decline in church attendance and perhaps the Christian faith in this day and age.

The date December 8, 1980 has been remembered by fans of the Beatles, especially if you’re a fan of their rhythm guitarist John Lennon.  He was tragically gunned down (shot twice in the back) by a man named Mark (and I will only use his first name in this piece) who apparently got upset with Lennon’s “more popular than Jesus now” remark.  Coupled with the Marxist-Globalist-Atheist anthem Imagine, and make no mistake, Imagine is Marxist in nature, hands down…regardless if you like the song or not.  Plus, the Freedom From Religion Foundation uses it as the theme for their radio program and internet podcast Freethought Radio.   While Lennon’s death made headlines and was breaking news, it did not put the Monday Night Football game on pause, as Howard Cosell broke the news during the game featuring the Miami Dolphins vs. the New England Patriots.  The game would play out with the Dolphins winning in overtime.  But Dolphin fans who were also Lennon fans would find the victory bitter sweet that night.

Because he was the rebel, and perhaps loved the attention, Lennon made remarks that others found offence.  The shot heard around the world was indeed his “more popular than Jesus” remark.  While I find that sadly true, the way Lennon says it is hands down a mockery of God.  That did not stop him, and as his marriage to Cynthia Powell came to an end (but kept John Lennon’s sirname) and his new marriage to Yoko Ono began, Lennon only got more radical.  He co-wrote the pro-Marxist anti-God anthem Imagine with Ono, and got involved with just as Marxist peace movement (regardless of where you stood on the Vietnam War, the heart of the so-called Peace Movement was Communist at best).  Our own government tried to deport Lennon but in end gave up the fight and gave Lennon a work visa.  The most popular Beatle was finally able to make a living in the red, white and blue.  I sometimes wonder if it would have been better if he did get ran out of America.  Perhaps he and Mark would not suffer the fates than came upon them.

We now focus on a bit on Mark who apparently was a fan of the Beatles but did like Lennon’s statements or the songs Imagine or God which the later Lennon declared that we are all God and declared God to be an it.  Once again Lennon makes a mockery of God.  Sadly, Mark went on downward journey into a psychotic state.  He apparently became a born Christian in 1971, but he did not get off the dark path.  Eventually Mark would go to New York City with a mission to take out Lennon, and he did.  In spite of any mental disorder, Mark never had a criminal record.

Now I am fan of certain work and music from The Beatles, including solo work from all four members of the group…INCLUDING John Lennon.  While Imagine is a well written song and powerfuly produced by Phil Spector, I despise Imagine, and it might be his best work…there are others songs from him and the other Beatles members together or not, I would prefer to listen to.  Now do I believe God used Mark to take out Lennon?  The answer is no.  However, I do believe that God may have very well allowed that event to take place as a testimony to his law and how God defines justice.  There are comes a point in all of our lives in which God will eventually cut us down as the old folk tune (popularized by Johnny Cash and Odetta Holmes) warns us.  I strongly believe that God choose to cut Lennon down and allow Mark to do it, after which God would cut down Mark for his issues including the murder of Lennon.  Still many fans of Lennon still treat him as he was some kind of Messiah of the 20th Century.  Talk about rock idols. Well John Lennon was truly a god to many of his fans…and they still can’t quite get over the tragic event.  Yet they don’t understand why a loving God would take Lennon out like he did.  Well, they did not like the answer, and they reject the true God for they don’t understand how he thinks.

God may not want to do certain things that actually hurt those that are innocent, but too many times the ones committing evil eventually force God to do what needs to be done.  The devil was allowed to destroy Job’s life (but could not take out Job himself), and God allowed the hungry lions to have the enemies of David for dinner…including their families (children too).  It may not be what God really wants but it had to be done.  Just as he did with popular God mocker Johnny, and someone that should have feared God more…or his mind is way out their…he needed to be saved from himself.  Our creation is cursed thanks to a woman named Eve, who gave the fruit to Adam who could not live without his wife.  Thus, the need to come as a baby and God choose a woman named Mary to conceive God’s son Jesus.

As I stated in my previous pieces, the all-Christmas music format has become one of the most popular radio formats in America and I also see that UK’s Magic Radio network also adopted an all-Christmas format themselves.  Still in America and more so in the UK, we have become a non-sectarian culture.  I was going to take on the arguments about Christmas and where its roots truly lie whether they are pagan or Christian.  Well, the classic church liturgy still honors Advent during the final weeks of autumn (and the first four weeks of December) and the birth of Jesus Christ around the time of the winter solstice, while the actually history of Christ’s birth likely took place during late winter and early spring…but the church decided to focus more on his crucifixion and resurrection during that time instead.

What keeps Christmas going in most of world is that it forces us to look to the past.  This is something that hard core Atheists are trying hard to erase, and then convince future generations that their so-called utopia was always here…which is also a lie.  But that is what the Soviet Union tried to do themselves.  Still Christian, Jew (even with Hanukkah), and pagan alike recognize Christmas to some degree, and still know about the Christian side of the story.  The Jews in show biz gave us such 20th Century standards as White Christmas, The Christmas Song, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, and Silver Bells.  They might have attempted to erase Christmas with songs focused on the Winter season (or just extend the season post-Christmas) with songs like Winter Wonderland, It’s a Marshmallow World, Sleigh Ride, and Let It Snow (3X), but eventually they got attached to the Christmas season and once Christmas Day has come and gone for another season, all the songs got boxed away and its back to business and life as usual.

I case some of you mention Kwanzaa, let us get this out of the way.  It was created to divide blacks against everyone else, and its founder is a convicted criminal, a noted atheist AND Marxist.  Marxists are known to preach disunity and call for unity under their terms.  Divide and Conquer.

Still Generation Z is a group of people in which the militant leftist atheist groups want to capitalize on in their goals of a fundamental transformation of American into not only a culture dominated by an atheist zeitgeist, but an America in which the central government becomes the demi-god and progressive politics and progressive science become the religions of the day, coupled with their other goals of decriminalization of sexual perversion (including abortion on demand, the abolishment of marriage as well as gender differences), deindustrializing, and decriminalization of certain crimes like theft.

While our founders were not all Christians, it was the Christians among them that were hard core and feared God, that supported something called The Bill of Rights, which includes something called Freedom of Speech with Patrick Henry and Samuel Adams leading the charge.  James Madison, George Washington, and James Monroe were the antagonists on this issue.  With the exception of Washington, Madison and Monroe were not Christians.  Henry and Adams took the stand for liberty, and they did because they understood that there was something higher than us.  That would be God himself, who so loved the world that he gave us his beloved son born in manger because was no room for Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus in the equivalate of what we call Hotels (or even Motels) at the time, and the concept of the Hospital was yet to be realized.

Keeping Christ in Christmas will have its challenges, but let us continue to focus on Jesus and his birth during the late fall and early winter months.  Let us use this time to push back on the brave new world that the militant non-sectarian activists want to drag us into…because they are desperate...thinking it will better us.  It will not, but it will for a time benefit a group of self-centered, self-absorbed people who think that THEY are better than Jesus Christ or his Father, God Almighty.  Sadly, John Lennon was very likely one of those self-centered, self-absorbed types, his fans if not friends, coupled with a progressive news media had his back.  They hoped that Lennon would help achive the outcome they desired.  Sadly, for Lennon, he was cut down.

Happy Christmas!!!
